Chapel of San Simon
San Simon is a folk saint originating in Guatemala amongst the Maya.
He appears in some slightly different forms, depending upon the area in which he's encountered.
Just as his forms are different, so are the names by which He is addressed. He's called San Simon, Maximon, Maam, Hermano Simon Judas, San Simon Judas, Hermano Pedro, Ajitz, Santo Nino, and many other names. If you do a search on the internet, however, the two most common you will find are San Simon and Maximon (pronounced mashee-moan).
His origins are a bit obscure, with fierce debates ranging from him being a Mayan God, a Catholic Priest, a Conquistador, or a deified ancestor (or ancestors). The details of his cult are hidden from public eyes, with reporters and anthropologists barely (and I mean just barely) scratching the surface.
Hermano Maximon is petition for love, luck, money, health, protection, fertility, and some say even revenge. He's become very famous in Mexico atleast for assisting people to quite smoking. It's said He can take your bad habits onto himself, thus purifying you of them.
